University of California San Diego UCSD students?

University of California San Diego UCSD students?
I'm currently debating whether to attend Davis or Sd. I was just wondering, (I got accpeted into warren in pharmaceutical chemistry).. are the classes hard at sd? Is it super competitive? I heard that people study all the time. is that true? I would like to go to parties or formals once in a while, do they have that there? Is it hard to change majors? because I'm not sure about my major yet. Also, are there buses that go up to san francisco from san diego? because the airplane tickets to there are kinda expensive. Is there anything else you can tell me about the school, teachers, academics, etc...? what about the food .. are they good? thanks so much for your help. I have 2 more weeks to decide!

WHAT'S YOUR OPINION? U of Colorado - Boulder or U of California - San Diego?

Which school do you think has a better reputation on a national level? Or are they equal? Which is the better school?

Academically, UC San Diego has a somewhat stronger reputation, especially in the physical sciences. The University of Colorado is probably a little better socially, and it is a pretty good school, so it all depends on what you are looking for.

2
My brother went to CU-Boulder and loved it. He did it ALL there. Undergrad, Masters, and he received his Ph.d on March 13, 2006 in mechanical engineering.

3
Mostly equal, SDU is a nicer area/climate.

4
they are both good schoool, no doubt. though i am a huge CSU - Fort Collins fan and hate the CU buff's Colorado is a really good school. It has a good rep. for vets. So if you want to be a vet that is a good school to go to & alameda east (that ER vet place on animal planet a lot, is in colorado.. Plus Colroado is a GREAT state! not that california isn't, but i lived in CO most of my life, and i loved it. I dont know much about U of California but I here it's a great school. It's more of your opinion and what you want to do for a living and where you would rather live, Snowy Colorado or Sunny California.

5
although i am not familiar with university of colorado, i know that ucsd is an amazing school. it is a beautiful campus in a great location with alot of esteemed professors. it was my first choice for school but i did not get in and went to uc irvine instead. the main thing would be to think about what you are going to major in and choose the school that has the better reputation for that academic field. also, depending on which state you live in will determine how much your tuition is, if that is an issue for you. if you live in california, ucsd will cost you substantially less and vice versa for colorado.

6
Why go to Bolder when you can go to sunny San Diego? There is no place like San Diego. The place is such a blast. Wish I'd gone to undergrad there.

I would consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry. For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'chefs, cooks and food preparation workers' or such. For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

How much is a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign in San Diego, California?

How much is a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign in San Diego, California?
It was 3 in the morning. There was no one on the street so I just paused and then went. Wtf. I got a speeding ticket a month earlier for $500. How much is this one going to be?? Also it said Im not eligible for traffic school for my speeding ticket and it was the first ticket I ever got. :( So how much is the ticket going to be, and will I be able to get traffic school for THIS one. I dont even know how much my insurance is going to go up for my first ticket. Im still a student so I have no idea how Im going to pay for all this...

I'm from Massachusetts but it sure sounds like California is controlled by a bunch of dickheads! Maybe Aaaaarnold can help you!

2
Ca CVC 22450 - Failure to stop at a stop sign - $138 base fine + applicable gov fees and surcharges. For more serious violations, one is not eligible for traffic.

3
The courts website normally has the court fees on it. Call the courts and ask if you make take a class. Your insurance will only go up for 1 ticket if you take a class for the other ticket removal

4
To get a fine that high for speeding, you were going at least 26 mph over the speed limit. Traffic school is not generally offered automatically when speed is more than 25 mph over the limit, although the court can order it if you ask. However, you can certainly use traffic school to avoid the conviction on the stop sign charge. Although a court can order traffic school for two citations issued within 18 months, I doubt that this would be likely when they are this close together, so you would only get rid of one, anyway. I am afraid Ben is way off on the fine. The scheduled fine for violating Veh C 22450(a) is $146+65 for a total of $211. Your fine should be close to that. Traffic school can cost up to $50 more, plus the cost of the school.

Is San Diego good place to start for pop punk band ?

Is San Diego good place to start for pop punk band ?
I want to attend the University of San Diego and i have heard some good things about it. I have another year of school. I am really into music. I listen to Alternative Rock, Pop punk and i know bands like Blink 182,Unwritten Law, My American Heart all come from San Diego. I was thinking of Chicago but its very cold and i really hope to go back to the US , i am actually a German citizen living in Paris and it is more expensive than California and finishing school here.A british school. They said i could attend in the U.S. somewhere and i really want to move to san diego california. It's really beautiful. I am an above average type of person. Would it be a good place to start ?

You would probably have more luck in Hollywood or somewhere in LA because it would be easier to be "discovered." But it is possible, look at my american heart like you mentioned among several other bands.

2
it would be easier to break into the music scene in San Diego vs LA. There are so many students, so lots of student bars often with open mike nights and live bands playing. Also cool small venues like The Casbah, Belly Up in Solana Beach, etc where you can work your way up to playing.

Which UC (University of California) School is Best?

Which UC (University of California) School is Best?
University of California, Berkeley University of California, Davis University of California, Irvine University of California, Los Angeles University of California, Merced University of California, Riverside University of California, San Diego University of California, San Francisco University of California, Santa Barbara University of California, Santa Cruz University of La Verne I will be studying medicines to become a cosmetic surgeon.

According to the US news ranking, Berkeley is best. It truly is exceptional. I think UCLA is one of the great universities in the world [nope - didn't go there] and would give it equal weight to Berkeley in most areas areas.

2
Are you talking about med school or your bachelor's? You cannot study medicine or plastic surgery during undergrad. For medical school, only UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI, and soon UCR and UCM have medical schools. UCSF is considered the best, followed by UCLA and the rest. However, all of them are extremely competitive and you'll be extremely lucky to even interview at all of them. For undergrad, it depends on your major and what you consider "best". In rankings---which are generally flawed---Berkeley and UCLA come out highest. However, what makes a school great is dependent on a good deal more than its rank; UC Davis is in a charming smal town catering almost directly to UCD students, while UCLA has the benefits of being in a major city. If you're thinking of majoring in film, UCLA is excellent while engineering at UCSD is top notch. UC Santa Cruz's astronomy program is second only behind Princeton's, but UCB has one of the largest programs for it. Research and campus visits are your best bets. Good luck!

3
1. UC Berekley is by far the best (I dont care what anyone tells you: great English, Business, History departments) 2. UC Los Angeles this barely beats out UCSB 3. UC Santa Barbara 4. UC San Diego more of a research and nerdy school but still top. Especially for grad. 5. UC San Francisco has some world class graduate programs making for a good undergrad 6. UC Riverside the secret amongst the UCs a very, very competitive and academic oriented school 7. UC Davis 8. UC Santa Cruz great School 9. UC Irvine 10. UC Merced 11. La Verne Very difficult list If your studying medicine I recommend UC San Francisco but because it is cosmetic surgery I recomend UCLA. Which has a world class medical school PLUS it is in the plastic surgery capital of the world.

4
First of all, if you are studying medicine, some UCs don't even have med school. Only Davis, Irvine, LA, SD, and SF has its own med school. Merced and Riverside has applied to open their own med school, but it will take a good years to come to reality. UCR, however, has a joint program with UCLA that those who graduated from UCR undergrad can apply, giving you a higher chance to get in. It sounds like you are entering undergrad, not medicine at this moment. Unless you get in to Berkley or LA, I suggest you to choose UC that is close to your home-home. Berkley has its downside, so you want to visit the campus first. If you are applying for undergrad, you cannot apply to UCSF for its graduate school only. If you are Berkeley student, you may take courses at UCSF, but you cannot get undergrad degree from SF. Riverside, Merced, and Santa Cruz are known for low-end among UC schools, and sometimes are known for party schools. However, they are good schools and I know plenty of students who went there who have successfully gone to med school. Berkeley, LA, and SD are known for top-three among UC schools. They are prestigious and more difficult to get in. Each campus has its own up and downside, but generally LA is good in overall areas. Irvine, Davis, and SB are the mid tiers, but they are great schools. Med schools do NOT give preferences if you went to the same school for undergrad, so go to a college where you can get great grades and enjoy your undergrad years.

Its not to late to be a cheerleader, but I would consider Color Guard. My ex girlfriend competed in color guard and it wasn't affliliated with school. Perhaps consider track and field. Powerlifting for someone of your height could go a long way.

Making an appeal in San Diego California Traffic Court?

Making an appeal in San Diego California Traffic Court?
6 months ago I received a speeding ticket. A lawyer I consulted warned me about the judge I was going to see in East SD Co., telling me he was very biased and was tough, even with a good case. I did much better than I expected in court. I cracked the cop, who couldn't answer many vital questions, such as whether or not he administered an alcohol test, and the speed of the area I was seen speeding in. I pointed out that he wrote I was speeding 55 in a 35 mph zone, however much of the area he cited me for speeding in was a 40 mph zone. He even falsely stated that it was "part 45mph part 30mph zone". Its 40! The judge even repeated it was a 45 zone siding with this incompetent cop. With his case looking weak, the judge still found me guilty. I couldn't believe it. And worse, I didnt even get the offer of traffic school. I felt slighted, and feel I received an unfair trial considering the cops spotty report. I am going to appeal. What can I expect? Will I see a different judge? Can I still ask for traffic school or will that part of the judges decision stand? The cop straight out said he didn't know what the speed limit was and repeated a wrong fact about the areas speed limit. Ive made many mistakes getting tickets in my past, but I am innocent on this, and I wish I could get a fair trial without worrying about my past. Do I have a good chance of a re trial? Do I have a chance of having a fair trial? Please, any information will be great..thank you. I'd also like to add that after the court, I spoke to a retired veteran police officer who witnessed the trial, and said he couldn't believe that case wasn't thrown out.

I don't practice in California, but here's some general law points to help you... Appeals are taken to a 'higher' court, so it would be sent to the next level in the court system for review. But appeals are also very complicated. You have to file a timely notice of appeal and certify the record on appeal. It sounds like you represented yourself, and that can cause a few problems. If you didn't make any objections, or move for a directed verdict, the appellate court may find that no appealable issues were preserved and refuse to review the case. If you can get a higher court to review, just know they will not hear new evidence, they will review the transcript of the original trial... and they will give a lot of deference to the ruling of the lower court. Now, if as you say the testimony was insufficient to show the elements were meant, you could get a reversal, which could mean a dismissal or a new trial... don't count on the officer not knowing the speed limit at a new trial... he'll be p*ssed and will have his ducks in a row!

2
Yes, you can appeal, and you will see a different judge (or a panel of judges, depending on the circumstances). If you represent yourself, DO NOT try to criticize the first judge or the policeman. This will get you nowhere, because judges stick up for each other. Also do not question the facts of the case as determined by the first judge, since appellate courts don't hear appeals of facts. Just focus on the interpretation of the law and how it applies to your case.

3
An appeal will be heard in the Appellate Division of the superior court, a 3-judge reviewing court, but I don't think you have any chance whatsoever on the appeal from the conviction. California's law on speed is a "reasonable and prudent" standard. You apparently admit going faster than than the posted limit (whatever it was). It is then presumed that your speed was not reasonable and prudent, and to win YOU must present evidence that your speed was reasonable and prudent despite the posted limit. It does not matter whether the hearing officer disbelieved everything the officer said -- if there was evidence you were exceeding the limit and no evidence that such a speed was reasonable, the hearing officer would HAVE to convict you. Further, even if your testimony was that you were not exceeding what you assert the limit is, the appeal is not a new trial, and so long as there is ANY evidence in the record to support the hearing officer's ruling, you will lose. So if the police officer testified you were going at a certain speed, and the hearing officer believed him, the Appellate Division MUST accept that as fact. There will not be a retrial. Either the evidence is sufficient (as it appears) and the conviction will be affirmed, or else the evidence is not sufficient, and the conviction will be reversed. You say you were not given an "offer" of traffic school. It does not have to be offerred, you have to ask for it. However, if you asked for it, and the hearing officer arbitrarily denied it (for example, if he said that nobody who goes to trial can get traffic school), that might be an issue you could win -- but that would result only in the case being sent back to the hearing officer for proper consideration of your request.

i think you just described indiana, the gays are too flamboyant or just try too hard to prove masculinity, and the bi's are either difficult, slutty, or just flat out silly.

3
use protection. although if you're so needy. why not come out? message people on myspace? use www.mogenic.com (although it never works) or the gay youth corner (which always works) in the big wide world if you go looking for sex without the barrier of the internet youll only find old men wanting to fuck you over. (mostly) research these people and talk to them on msn/ facebook whatever.

Looks like you think quite highly of yourself, hmm? Oh, its okay, nothing against you. Of course you can look in san fran, but don't bring him home if your under 16. Even though brent corrigan (gay porn star) when he was 16, dated people in their 30's, its still risky & you could get hurt. good luck on what you choose :D

UC College in southern California ?

UC College in southern California ?
I am a currently in 11th grade at a San Diego California High School. My GPA last year was a 3.7 and I have yet to take my S.A.T. I am afraid that I lack the extracurricular they seek for. And I was wondering what colleges want and look for and what I can do.

Colleges aren't looking for any one extracurricular. They're looking for well-rounded students. This doesn't mean you should join every club in your school-that will just look like you're trying too hard. Rather, show consistent involvement in a few extracurriculars that you enjoy. That being said, things like community service and student leadership make a particularly good impression. So find a couple of extracurricular activities that interest you, and get involved!

2
best thing to do is research. go to each of the UC campuses' websites and check what they look for. you might find something attractive about a certain campus while you research. Also, do campus visits. The feel of the campus could be different than you think

Grossmont College (it's a community college) has a Respiroty Therapist program. And it's $22 a unit! The waiting list is a bit long, though. You should still check it out. Beats $67,000 by a long shot.
