According to the US news ranking, Berkeley is best. It truly is exceptional. I think UCLA is one of the great universities in the world [nope - didn't go there] and would give it equal weight to Berkeley in most areas areas.

Are you talking about med school or your bachelor's? You cannot study medicine or plastic surgery during undergrad. For medical school, only UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI, and soon UCR and UCM have medical schools. UCSF is considered the best, followed by UCLA and the rest. However, all of them are extremely competitive and you'll be extremely lucky to even interview at all of them. For undergrad, it depends on your major and what you consider "best". In rankings---which are generally flawed---Berkeley and UCLA come out highest. However, what makes a school great is dependent on a good deal more than its rank; UC Davis is in a charming smal town catering almost directly to UCD students, while UCLA has the benefits of being in a major city. If you're thinking of majoring in film, UCLA is excellent while engineering at UCSD is top notch. UC Santa Cruz's astronomy program is second only behind Princeton's, but UCB has one of the largest programs for it. Research and campus visits are your best bets. Good luck!

1. UC Berekley is by far the best (I dont care what anyone tells you: great English, Business, History departments) 2. UC Los Angeles this barely beats out UCSB 3. UC Santa Barbara 4. UC San Diego more of a research and nerdy school but still top. Especially for grad. 5. UC San Francisco has some world class graduate programs making for a good undergrad 6. UC Riverside the secret amongst the UCs a very, very competitive and academic oriented school 7. UC Davis 8. UC Santa Cruz great School 9. UC Irvine 10. UC Merced 11. La Verne Very difficult list If your studying medicine I recommend UC San Francisco but because it is cosmetic surgery I recomend UCLA. Which has a world class medical school PLUS it is in the plastic surgery capital of the world.

First of all, if you are studying medicine, some UCs don't even have med school. Only Davis, Irvine, LA, SD, and SF has its own med school. Merced and Riverside has applied to open their own med school, but it will take a good years to come to reality. UCR, however, has a joint program with UCLA that those who graduated from UCR undergrad can apply, giving you a higher chance to get in. It sounds like you are entering undergrad, not medicine at this moment. Unless you get in to Berkley or LA, I suggest you to choose UC that is close to your home-home. Berkley has its downside, so you want to visit the campus first. If you are applying for undergrad, you cannot apply to UCSF for its graduate school only. If you are Berkeley student, you may take courses at UCSF, but you cannot get undergrad degree from SF. Riverside, Merced, and Santa Cruz are known for low-end among UC schools, and sometimes are known for party schools. However, they are good schools and I know plenty of students who went there who have successfully gone to med school. Berkeley, LA, and SD are known for top-three among UC schools. They are prestigious and more difficult to get in. Each campus has its own up and downside, but generally LA is good in overall areas. Irvine, Davis, and SB are the mid tiers, but they are great schools. Med schools do NOT give preferences if you went to the same school for undergrad, so go to a college where you can get great grades and enjoy your undergrad years.
