Degreeswise, how cold does it usually get. I'm going to school there, so I want to know what to expect especially in December.

Actually, that's usually a pretty warm time of year. It will drop some from September to December, but you're still looking at an average daily high temperature of around 75 degrees in San Diego (cooler in the mornings, sometimes as low as the 40's). However, once December rolls around, you're also looking at the possibility of rain, so make sure you have wet-weather gear.

now, sept is warm -- wear shorts but eves are getting cooler. in november/december you may be "breathing steam" in the morning, but afternoons will warm up -- then chilly evenings.... thxgiving you can usually sit outside w/ teeshirts/shorts in the sunny afternoon & go boogie boarding after turkey.... i can't remember when it last rained hard in december...usually feb/march if at all... & hopefully it will rain a lot this yr!!!

From now through about early November it'll still be pretty pleasant.... high 60's to mid-70's. By Christmas, it will usually start to drop to about the high 50's to low 60's...although I remember more than one Christmas spent in shorts poolside!!

What is the best place [meaning affordable] to live in San Diego, California?

What is the best place [meaning affordable] to live in San Diego, California?
What are some nice and affordable places to live in San Diego? What is San Diego like? How are the people, the transportation, the schools, the crime, the nightlife -- etc... I'm thinking about living there...is it a good place to go?

I have lived here all my life but, it is not affordable. If you really search you can find a bargain. The closer to the beach the more expensive. I live near the beach. It is a beautiful city, the people are laid back and friendly. Great nightlife and restaurants and new ball park downtown. Good luck!

I would say central San Diego is pretty affordable but some of the places there are not the best places to live at. If you want something affordable and nice I would say La Mesa. It has great rental prices for the kind of apartments and it is located in a area where everything is reachable.

North county, coastal. http://www.mgproperties.com/apartment_homes/north_county/northcountycoastal.htm

<<I'm thinking about living there...is it a good place to go?>> Nah, we got too many transplants here already, stay where you are.

East county is cheaper but even low-end condos can go for $200K. SD County has the most over-priced housing market in the country according to Forbes magazine. The weather here is obviously great. Warm beaches but a very cold ocean. Now as far as things like transportation go, it sucks I-5 has bumper to bumper traffic at all hours of the day.. A recent text book on urban planning described SD county as being an example of a total failure by local government to manage growth. Sure seems that way....

It's really hard to find jobs in SD. Maybe if you apply early and are lucky you can get a job in a restaurant with a patio. Some people might hire gardeners too.

Sea World is almost a given. You go there.. sign up for your choice... As long as u get there w/in GOOD TIME... You will get the job. Call them and ask when they are doing the next Job Fair (or whenever it will be closest to when you need) It would be the perfect fit based on your description. (They are also totally aware that people will just be working there for the summer and they're fine w/ it) i KNOW! Too good to be true? lol. But nope! A ton of my friends did this. Noone heard of anyone that didn't make the cut.

How hard will it be for me to get into a California state school or private school, like San Diego State?

How hard will it be for me to get into a California state school or private school, like San Diego State?
I have a GPA around 3.78 and I'm working on getting it up to at least a 3.8 or higher this Senior year. I'm currently in the top 24% of my graduating class at a well known high school in the Chicago suburbs. I've been in two honors English college level classes. There are almost all academic classes on my completed Junior transcript with: 3 years of science (Earth, Biology, Chemistry), 3 years of social studies, 3 years of English, 2 years of Spanish (but I was in levels 2 and 3, skipping 1), 3 years of math, Dance class for 2 years, one pastry arts class, and a business class. I had 38.50 completed by the end of Junior year with more than half of my classes had As and the other Bs. I'm also in National Honor Society, a leader of Amnesty International, and editor of my literary magazine. I'm really in need of a scholarship so I'm hoping this will make up for the cost factor.

Not sure why these type of questions get asked 100 times a day, perhaps it's a sign young people really don't know how to use the Internet for anything other than checking their facebook status, when the information can be found on ANY college's website by referencing their minimum academic admission requirements.

How many honors classes are you taking? You're GPA is good, but it would be more impressive if you had two or three honors classes per year calculated into that. California state schools are VERY hard to get into out of state- Well, at least all the UC campuses are. As for private schools, it depends on the school. USC and Pomona are very selective. Pepperdine is less so, but still not easy to get into. But it's hard for me to tell unless I know how many honors classes overall you have taken. Only those two english ones?

First, San Diego State is a public school, not private. Most every school with "State" in their name is a public school. If you are thinking of coming to California to attend a UC or Cal State school, be aware the quality of these schools is falling off a cliff. Because of massive budget cuts, the state of California is handing the UC and CS schools less and less money to educate students. For instructors and staff at the UC and CS schools it's a known fact that new faculty aren't about to get hired on and those still there are likely going to see furlough days if they don't succumb to layoffs. I have heard the faculty at Berkeley have been given a 15% pay cut and many of the best ones are leaving. Then there are the students, many of whom in fine arts and humanities fields are finding their course offerings cut dramatically. I do know the cuts led Berkeley to withdraw all offers to out of state students for PhD programs no matter how good their research. Many students are finding it impossible to get all the courses they need in a given semester to make the progress they want to make towards their majors. Which may result in having to take an extra year to graduate. Many students are finding that by the time their turn comes to register for classes, everything they need is already full. To add insult to injury, the UC system has raised tuition this last year by 32%. Which means that an out of state student will pay as much; if not more than if they went to a private school? While private schools are still facing a budget crunch, they are accountable to their students, not to taxpayers and politicians. If you're really dedicated to what you'd like to study, be it English, Economics, or Engineering a small private school could be a better investment in your own human resources. If you are thinking of coming to California stick with the private schools like USC, Stanford, Chapman, the Claremont Colleges, etc. http://www.latimes.com/news/la-me-classes20-2010jan20,0,6323484.story?track=rss My daughter was accepted at Berkeley and UCI for her fully funded PhD in engineering and decided to go somewhere else because the budget crisis resulted in half her classes getting cancelled. Only come to California to go to a private school like USC or Stanford.

Is San Diego [California] a good city to live in?

Is San Diego [California] a good city to live in?
I currently live in Portland, Oregon. 6 months of rain. The weathers horrible. I want a new start in San Diego. Is there nice high schools over there? What are some pros and cons about San Diego in general? Thanks!

I live there for 3 years.... it's a great city. Gorgeous beaches, perfect weather, very laid back. LA is a 2 hour drive, so TONS to do. The only real cons are that it's fairly expensive to live there and it's not particularly centralized or cosmopolitan. I haven't the foggiest about high schools, but UCSD is really good and SDSU is pretty decent too.

The way it works for schools is that you go to the school near where you live - this is called Your neighborhood school. there aer ways to get around this, but supposing that you are an average kind of person, doing the average kind of stuff, you will probably go to school in your neighborhood school. What I've noticed is that the schools in richer areas tend to be better. They have less crime incidents, they have higher scores in state tests, and they have less students per class. this doesn't necessarily mean that they are a good school - but it's certainly better than schools who have high crime rate, low test scores, and high number of students per class. bottom line: if you live in a rich area of town like La Jolla, then you will get into a good school. There's lots of pros about living in San Diego: great weather all year round, lots of trees & green space, beaches are gorgeous, and lots of fun things to do. Cons about living in San Diego are: cost of living is pretty high. Housing is expensive. Can get very hot in the summer - prone to forest fires. Public transportation exist, but you pretty much need a car to get around. There's quite a bit of traffic since people use their car to go everywhere even to the local grocery store.
