Is San Diego [California] a good city to live in?

Is San Diego [California] a good city to live in?
I currently live in Portland, Oregon. 6 months of rain. The weathers horrible. I want a new start in San Diego. Is there nice high schools over there? What are some pros and cons about San Diego in general? Thanks!

I live there for 3 years.... it's a great city. Gorgeous beaches, perfect weather, very laid back. LA is a 2 hour drive, so TONS to do. The only real cons are that it's fairly expensive to live there and it's not particularly centralized or cosmopolitan. I haven't the foggiest about high schools, but UCSD is really good and SDSU is pretty decent too.

The way it works for schools is that you go to the school near where you live - this is called Your neighborhood school. there aer ways to get around this, but supposing that you are an average kind of person, doing the average kind of stuff, you will probably go to school in your neighborhood school. What I've noticed is that the schools in richer areas tend to be better. They have less crime incidents, they have higher scores in state tests, and they have less students per class. this doesn't necessarily mean that they are a good school - but it's certainly better than schools who have high crime rate, low test scores, and high number of students per class. bottom line: if you live in a rich area of town like La Jolla, then you will get into a good school. There's lots of pros about living in San Diego: great weather all year round, lots of trees & green space, beaches are gorgeous, and lots of fun things to do. Cons about living in San Diego are: cost of living is pretty high. Housing is expensive. Can get very hot in the summer - prone to forest fires. Public transportation exist, but you pretty much need a car to get around. There's quite a bit of traffic since people use their car to go everywhere even to the local grocery store.
