Is University of California San Diego really that boring? Are there no parties?
I was just accepted to University of California San Diego to the Sixth College for CSE: Computer Science which is kind of a gift from god considering my grades. I know UCSD is a very hard school to get into and the Jacobs school of engineering is no joke and ranks the top ten in the country for engineering. So I am very fortunate for getting in, and I know its a very good school. I would consider myself a smart kid, I have my head on straight. However, I do party a lot as in I drink like every weekend. I feel very fortunate that I got into UCSD and I would feel like I passed up a good opportunity if I didn't go, however, I need that college life. Will I be that bored if I go to UCSD? Are there some parties, just not that many parties? Is it really a dry campus? Would you recommend that I pass up UCSD if it is that boring of a school to go to University of Washington, Cal Poly, or UC SB?

I've heard that each individual college at UCSD has it's own lively lifestyle, as long as you go there ready to mingle with people. The college system there has really allowed many people to gather social lives that they probably would not have had at universities without the same system. Sorry to burst your bubble, though, but first and foremost, college is about the education, and no matter where you go, you will make friends that you will keep forever. **note:** You'll probably get a better feel for it if you visit some of these campuses during your spring break: I know that Cal Poly Pomona has a nice rec area for students, but I haven't ben to SB or UW so I dk about those two... and congrats on making it into SD! I got in there yesterday as a Biological Engineering Major!

Many of my closest friends went to SD and they didn't like the social aspect of it at all. I would goto SB if I were you. It has a great reputation in computer science/engineering. and it has an atmosphere much more in tune to what you want.

Depends on what you figure your priorities are going to be. You said "college life" which I aptly read "want to drink". UCSD is a wonderful academic institution, but it's kind of isolated from the rest of the greater San Diego area. There are definitely parties to be found, you just need to know where to look and who to ask. If you feel you "need that college life", you may want to consider how long you'll "need" it. I was a partier my first few years, until I realized that I wasn't going to get anywhere doing it that way, especially after I graduated. After I turned 21, I pretty much stopped going to parties anyway, so the social life (or lack thereof) really didn't affect me. Also, UCSD is about two miles from the beaches (Sixth is in the NW corner of campus). As far as I'm concerned, as long as you have a beach, if you get bored it's your own damn fault. If you really value the "college life" that much, then you might consider Poly-SLO. If you don't think it will matter much after a few years, stick with UCSD.

Every college has a social life, so don't sweat it. I know people who are attending Seminary, and you would think this would be dreadfully boring, but they have parties and dances and go to clubs like everyone else. San Diego is a good spot to be in. It's close to Mexico if you are inclined to South of the Border thrills, and it's close to the mountains, Tahoe, Las Vegas, the dune-buggy sand hills of Arizona. And the beaches are great. So what's not to like? Congratulations on getting in, by the way. I'm sure you'll find a lot of fun along with a quality education there.
